Somatic Therapist
I am a licensed therapist with a physical office space in Seattle, WA. I am also licensed to provide therapy to anybody living in California or Washington. Besides providing therapy, I also run workshops and help other therapists interested in somatic techniques receive supervision while completing their hours for licensure.
I love this career. I can say that honestly. It has afforded me the ability to manage my own life, work with an endless variety of people, and provide for my family. I can not think of a more rewarding career. However, when I first got into this work, and was even teaching it, I noticed that a lot of therapists were able to be sweet and kind, and supportive in a generic sense, but they would struggle when working with someone more challenging.
Full transparency, I was one of those therapists! Thankfully, I began receiving somatic therapy in my late 20’s and was introduced to methods that really press our delicate facade right up to our face. The only option I had was to either quit the therapy, or look at myself in a painfully deep way. So, yes, I quit! But a year later, after an extreme life event, I re-entered therapy with that same therapist and have not looked back.
All that to say, I hope you find and stick to a therapy that equally gives you pause and helps push into the difficult work that leads you in the direction you want to go. We all want to feel better, but our past has a fascinating way of creating unique blind spots that can make change difficult. I found that the temporary discomfort was well worth where I am today.
Originally from Los Angeles, I escaped southern California and moved to a rural coastal town 100 miles south of the Oregon border for college. While there, I worked several part time jobs as I completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Work.
In the professional world, I worked in family therapy clinics, group homes, school classrooms, foundations and even taught university courses for 6 years while working in all those varying environments. Eventually, I began my own private practice focusing on adults, couples, and teens.
Now, I live with my partner and soon to be born baby! We recently moved back to my wifes hometown of Seattle, and I am thrilled to bring my practice to the area and help even more people.
I have studied and used several different therapy methods (e.g. CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Gestalt, Strengths Based & Narrative Therapy), which I believe to be solid methods. But my preferred techniques and specialized training are within the realm of somatic psychotherapy. It’s the same therapy I receive, and I have found it to be the most impactful.
Currently my practice focuses on individuals (Age 14 and up) and couples. The human lifespan is fascinating, and the variation in people looking for support is endless.
At the time of this writing my oldest patient is in their 70’s and my youngest is 14. They range from the unemployed to the business magnate. From the depressed to the manic. From couples with full grown kids, to couples deciding if they should move in together. From different racial backgrounds, to different sexual orientations. The common denominator, a desire to feel better and to learn more about how they function in the world.
I am licensed to practice in both Washington and California. But my actual physical office is in Upper Queen Anne. Parking is free, the amenities are plentiful, and my office offers a sound proofed and private space to start the work (Besides the occasional thumps from the worker above me!). Remote therapy is also an option for those that are farther away or who want to avoid that nasty traffic. Whether you’re nearby or far, we can find a way to connect that works for you.
